The Western Massachusetts Health Equity Network and the School of Public Health and Health Sciences present the film premiere of MOSAIC, a documentary that the network commissioned to highlight the transformational work of local leaders of color and other voices from the Connecticut River Valley to the Berkshires. A regional group of young and old helped create the content and guide the process of the film’s focus on the intersection of racism and health. The event will include a light dinner, music and a post-screening panel.

About this event:

What becomes possible when we ask:

  • What would a world without racism look like?
  • What would it be like if quality healthcare were accessible to all?
  • How can we embrace and support wellbeing in all its manifestations?
  • What could healthy communities look like…and accomplish?

These are some of the questions we continuously ask ourselves in our work at the Western Massachusetts Health Equity Network. We have also explored this vision at three biannual summits that, since 2014, have brought together people from throughout our region who care about and are working for racial justice, policy change, and health in all its many aspects.

Background:

Our film was made during the height of the COVID pandemic and the national resurgence of racial justice activism, as the 2020 Health Equity Summit Planning Committee transformed into the 2021-22 WMHEN Film Committee to amplify local stories about racism as a public health crisis. Including contributions from many UMass students. MOSAIC brings to light OUR stories in OUR region of Massachusetts. Come watch, listen, and be heard! This event is free and open to the public.
