The Massachusetts Appeals Court is once again visiting UMass Amherst to hear oral arguments in six pending cases. The arguments are open to the public, providing students with a fantastic opportunity to see the Appeals Court in action, right here on campus.
Even better, the three-judge panel will include UMass Amherst alum Justice William Meade, as well as Justice Sabita Singh and Justice Paul Hart Smyth (who went to school up the street at Amherst College). All three justices will hold a special informal discussion after the hearings to answer student questions.
This year’s cases include three criminal cases and three civil cases. Details on all of the cases (including the briefs outlining the parties’ arguments) are available here – just scroll down to the Nov. 13th sitting.
The courtroom will be set up in Campus Center Room 163 starting at 9:30 a.m. This event's listed end time (12:30 p.m.) is only an estimate, as it depends on how long each case takes.
