Tips on Using Handshake

Signing up for Handshake is easy!

Find jobs, internships, and co-ops and connect to the UMass Engineering Career Center for recruiting events, fairs, workshops, and helpful career resources.

  1. Go to UMass.JoinHandshake.com.
  2. Click "Current Student Login" and use your UMass Net ID and password.
  3. Complete your profile. Some information is already pre-loaded, so check it for accuracy.

Profiles are automatically set to private, so you must set it to public for it to be viewable by employers. A public profile is only viewable by employers connected with UMass. You can have a public profile and keep some information (for example, your GPA) private. Use the following instructions to change your settings.

Profile privacy setting:

  1. Click your name in the main drop-down menu in the top right corner.
  2. Select "Settings & Privacy."
  3. Select "Account Information" in the upper-left side and then in the "Privacy" section.
  4. Select the option that meets your privacy preference.

GPA privacy setting:

  1. Click your name in the main drop-down menu in the top-right corner.
  2. Select "My Profile."
  3. Click the "edit" symbol in the "Education" section.
  4. Select the option that meets your privacy preference.

Resume privacy setting: You have the option to make documents visible on your profile, allowing employers to view and download them. For a visible public resume, we suggest you do not include personal information such as your cell phone number, address, or email address. Resumes not set as visible can be attached to specific job applications, which will allow only the employer who receives the application to view it.

Start searching for your future career! The Handshake Help Center is full of Q&As, short videos, tutorials, and materials to help you find your way. For trouble signing in or additional assistance, contact the Engineering Career Center at coecareers [at] engin [dot] umass [dot] edu or call the Center at 413-545-4558.
