Associate Professor of Speech, Language, and Hearing Sciences
Pronouns: she/her
Sara K. Mamo completed her audiology and research degrees at the University of North Carolina-Chapel Hill, and she did a postdoctoral fellowship at the Johns Hopkins Center on Aging and Health. Currently, she is an Associate Professor and Associate Chair in the Department of Speech, Language, and Hearing Sciences at the University of Massachusetts Amherst. Her research focuses on improving the accessibility and affordability of hearing healthcare for older adults. Her research related to speech-in-noise understanding seeks to recruit previously underrepresented listener groups, such as persons with cognitive impairment and, more recently, multilingual individuals. Another line of work focuses on medical complex adults (e.g., persons with cognitive impairment, multiple chronic conditions) and how best to integrate hearing and communication support into care they are already receiving.
