Career assessment tools are a great resource to help you learn more about yourself, your work values, strengths, and personality. As you progress in your academic career at UMass, we invite you to utilize the tools below and welcome you to visit your SPHHS OCP Team to further discuss your results.
Self-Assessment Tools
- FOCUS 2 Career Allows self-assessment of skills and interests, as well as integrated career and major exploration. Perfect if you aren't sure you are in the right major! Access code for registration for UMASS students is "Goodell"
- 16 Personalities -An assessment based on the Myers-Briggs and Carl Jung typological approach. This can help you understand your own personality as well as how others' personalities affect workplace culture and teams. Understanding your personality can help you discover careers that are most suitable to you. Users of 16 Personalities describe it as, "freakish accurate!"
- Via Strengths Measures 24 character traits such as curiosity, creativity, fairness, humor, perspective, and perseverance that can be applied across a range of interactions including work, home, school, and social. Users assert that the tool helps boost self-awareness and confidence, and find greater well-being.

Career Exploration Tools
- CareerOneStop Toolkit Allows users to explore careers, salary and benefit information, education and training, as well as career development resources.
- Occupation Finder Maintained by the U.S. Department of Labor, this site allows you to explore different professions and learn about the training and education needed, earnings, expected job prospects, what workers do on the job, and working conditions.
- What Can I Do With This Major? Features nearly 100 major profiles with information on common career paths, types of employers that hire in the field, and strategies to maximize opportunities.
- Career Cornerstone Center The Career Cornerstone Center is an excellent resource for those exploring career paths in science, technology, engineering, mathematics, computing, healthcare, and medicine.
- Nursing Careers Explore the range of nursing specialties, their respective job characteristics, and the licenses, certifications and degrees needed to get there. Provides career descriptions, expert interviews, and licensing and degree path information for anyone that is interested in pursuing Nursing or other healthcare careers.
