Stockbridge Faculty and Students Share Latest Research at Agronomy, Crops and Soil Conference in St. Louis

UMass Amherst Stockbridge School of Agriculture faculty and students presented their latest research in environmental sciences at an annual international meeting and conference hosted by the American Society for Agronomy, Crop Science Society of America, and Soil Science Society of America in St. Louis, Mo., last month.

The international event was attended by leading scientists, researchers, educators, policymakers, students, exhibitors and government institutions and provided an opportunity to discuss cutting-edge developments and feature groundbreaking research in agronomy, crops and soil science.

Stockbridge faculty members who shared their research included Om Parkash Dhankher, Rachel Hestrin, Hannah Naughton, Baoshan Xing, Masoud Hashemi, and Michelle DaCosta. Graduate students Sudhir Sharma, Josphat Kiunga, Gabriella Griffen, Xiupei Zhou, Arthur Siller and Jefferson Lu also presented their research from the labs they work in with their professors.

Marissa Hanley, an undergraduate student and mentee of Naughton, presented her project “Analyzing the Uptake of Toxic Metals in Foraged Edible Mushrooms in New England.”

“Presenting my research, and viewing the work from really extraordinary scientists, was an eye-opening experience,” Hanley said.  “I’m thrilled to be networking with this incredible scientific community, alongside which I look forward to growing my career.”

Stockbridge has been conducting scientific research into plants, soil and agriculture for more than 150 years. Its faculty come from nine different countries, offering research opportunities and classes unparalleled by colleges and universities around the world.
