School of Public Policy Hosts Talk on Environmental Justice
The School of Public Policy will host a conversation with environmental justice advocate and scholar Nicky Sheats on Monday, April 26, at noon. The online event is open to the UMass Amherst community.
Sheats will speak on “Achieving Mandatory Emissions Reductions for Environmental Justice Communities through Climate Change Mitigation Policy.”
The director of the Center for the Urban Environment of the John S. Watson Institute for Public Policy at Thomas Edison State University, Sheats is a founding member of the New Jersey Environmental Justice Alliance, the Environmental Justice Leadership Forum on Climate Change and the Environmental Justice and Science Initiative.
He has served on a number of federal and state advisory councils, including the Environmental Protection Agency’s National Environmental Justice Advisory Council and its Clean Air Act Advisory Committee, as well as the New Jersey Clean Air Council.
