Deadline Approaching for Campuswide National College Health Assessment Survey to Enhance Student Health and Wellbeing
Campus Life and Wellbeing, Recreation and Wellbeing, and University Health Services encourage all UMass Amherst students to participate in the National College Health Assessment (NCHA), a crucial initiative aimed at improving student health and wellbeing.
The NCHA survey is an essential tool utilized by institutions nationwide to gauge the health status and trends within their student bodies. Administered by the American College Health Association, the survey gathers comprehensive data on a variety of health topics, including mental health, substance use, nutrition, physical activity and sexual health.
The comprehensive survey is currently open for students to complete through Monday, Nov. 25.
The “wellbeing survey,” sent via email to students earlier this fall, provides invaluable insights into the health habits, behaviors and perceptions of college students, empowering the university to craft informed health policies and programs tailored to student needs.
“The NCHA survey is not just a questionnaire; it’s a bridge that connects us to our students’ health realities,” says Amanda Waters, director of University Mental Health Promotion and Wellness Administration. “By understanding their challenges and needs, we can create a supportive environment that fosters academic success and personal growth. The National College Health Assessment data will direct efforts to advance the health and wellbeing of students across campus. I’m excited to bring data back to departments, schools, colleges, units and student groups to support the health promoting actions they can take in their spheres of influence.”
The primary goal of conducting the survey is to obtain a holistic view of student health, which will serve as a foundation for developing targeted interventions and health promotion strategies. The data collected will enable the university to identify key areas for improvement, allocate resources effectively, and measure the impact of current health programs.
Key objectives include:
- Identifying prevalent health issues and trends among students
- Enhancing on-campus health services and support systems
- Promoting a culture of health and wellness across the campus community
The survey is confidential and responses will be used solely for research and program development purposes. The university extends its gratitude to all students who have already completed the survey, acknowledging their contribution to enhancing the health and wellbeing of the entire campus community.
