David Keiser Named NBER Research Associate

David Keiser, professor of resource economics, has been appointed as a research associate by the National Bureau of Economic Research within its Program on Environmental and Energy Economics. The program studies the economics of the energy sector, the determinants of pollution and other actions that affect the environment, and how public policy impacts these areas.
Affiliation with the NBER provides researchers access to a scholarly community that prioritizes open dialogue and collaborative inquiry. Research associates, the senior scholars within the NBER, are instrumental in guiding the direction of research programs by identifying emerging research themes, mentoring junior scholars – known as faculty research fellows – and helping secure funding for ongoing initiatives.
A private, nonprofit and nonpartisan organization, the NBER is structured around 19 specialized research programs, each bringing together experts in a specific field of economic study. These programs host regular meetings where members present their findings and refine their ideas through peer feedback. Much of this research is shared publicly through the NBER Working Paper Series, which is widely distributed to academic institutions, policymakers and journalists, and is accessible on the NBER’s website.
Keiser, who is among 19 research associates and 44 faculty research fellows recently announced by the organization, joins his UMass economics colleagues Arindrajit Dube and Ina Ganguli who were named research associates in previous years.
