UMass Amherst operates more than 30 Core Facilities offering a wide range of services to support basic, translational, and clinical research, including access to cutting-edge technologies, high-end instrumentation, and technical expertise.
Terms of RAship
These RA positions will be under the supervision of the Core Facility directors, and will function similarly to an external internship position – the graduate student will essentially be on leave from their PIs lab for the duration of the summer period. There shall be no split appointments between the PIs lab and the Core Facility. (PIs will be required to submit a Statement of Acknowledgement of the terms of RAship in order for the student to
be considered).
The Graduate student’s payroll will be managed by the student’s home department payroll system – IALS will disburse funds to cover summer graduate salaries to the student’s PI’s RTF account or home department. Details of fund dispersal will be negotiated per student by the departments graduate summer salary guidelines.
The grad RA will be working between 20-40 hours per week, for the duration of the Summer Semester 2022. Pay rate is $30.33/hour.
Grad RAs will be required to file a report at the end of the summer, detailing their work and projects, as well as, potential impact beyond the summer RAship.
