The PhD in Hispanic literatures and linguistics at UMass Amherst is for students interested in becoming faculty in higher education. 

The PhD is appropriate for you whether you have already earned an MA in the field or not. If you don’t already have an MA, you can receive an additional year of funding so you can complete the appropriate requirements to begin your doctoral work.  

For that work, you’ll choose to focus on one of the following concentrations: Iberian studies, Hispanic linguistics, Latin American and Latinx studies, Portuguese and Brazilian studies, and translation in the Hispanic and Lusophone world. 

By completing the PhD in Hispanic literatures and linguistics, you’ll be ready to continue you career in higher education in this exciting field.
