The Spanish and health certificate is designed to equip undergraduate UMass Amherst nursing students with the skills to address the unique health-care needs of Spanish-speaking populations.

To earn your certificate, you’ll complete at least 17 credits in the areas of:

  • Spanish language

  • Cultural diversity in health care

  • Culture and society of the Hispanic world

You will also undertake a two- or three-credit experiential component in which you’ll engage with Spanish-speaking health-care communities either in the United States or abroad.

Offered to current UMass Amherst students in on-site programs, this certificate is beneficial in a variety of career paths, especially for students who expect to work in a Spanish-speaking health-care environment. This includes students studying Spanish, nursing, public health, nutrition, psychology, pre-med, and translation.
