Basic science and translational research in communication across the lifespan
Speech, Language, and Hearing Sciences faculty investigate communication use and needs in speakers and listeners of all ages. In areas as wide-ranging as language development and electroacoustics, we use behavioral, neuroimaging, community-based, and machine-learning methods to investigate how people communicate, and how to best support improved communication.

Communication in Children and Adolescents
Using behavioral and community-based methods, our child language researchers are interested in how to best support community members and improve outcomes for children with a wide variety of developmental conditions and communication challenges.
Communication and Recovery in Adults
Using behavioral, EEG, and machine-learning models, our researchers in adult communication investigate clinical questions surrounding communication and quality of life among adults with aphasia, best practices for diagnosis and treatment, and interdisciplinary therapy approaches.
Hearing and Hearing Healthcare Research
Our faculty investigate a wide variety of hearing-related concerns, from basic electroaccoustics to real-world adoption of amplification and quality of life for older adults who have hearing challenges. Many AuD students complete their Capstones in these laboratories.
