What is the goal of the day of dialogue?
The Right to Food Day of Dialogue is an event to bring community members together to discuss ending hunger and improving nutrition on college campuses and across the commonwealth. Participants will be a part of meaningful conversations, ask tough questions, and create action steps to produce food sovereignty across Massachusetts. We hope that by the end of the day everyone feels educated and empowered. We also hope people have fun!
What is the Right to Food?
The right to food is about living in a society where everyone can access and afford food that meets their nutritional, social, and cultural needs, as part of a resilient food system that protects the ability of future generations to do the same. The Right to Food framework holds governments accountable for making nutritious food sustainably available to all members of society without discrimination. It also ensures that people who are closest to the challanges of food insecurity are able to participate meaningfully in creating and adapting programs and policies to meet their needs.
Who is participating?
The Right to Food Day of Dialogue is bringing together students, professors, legislators, community members, and people with lived expertise for a conversation about how to end hunger and promote good nutirtion for all. Everyone can particiapte in this day -- and it's especailly important that those who know hunger first-hand are in the lead on creating solutions.
How do I get there?
The Old Chapel is located on the UMass Amherst campus, near the WEB Du Bois library. Please utilize the map below to find the event space.
Where do I park?
Parking on campus is FREE for everyone who is participating in the Right to Food Day of Dialogue. You can park in the UMass Amherst Campus Center Parking Garage located near the Student Union. A week before the event, you will receive an email with a link to register your car for free parking. Stay tuned!
Will food be provided?
Breakfast and lunch will be provided for everyone throughout the Right to Food Day of Dialogue. Thanks to our team at UMass Catering, we will be able to accommodate the dietary restrictions listed on your registration.
What should I prepare?
We welcome everyone to come as they are for the Day of Dialogue. If you have the capacity to read the one-pagers for the afternoon breakout sessions, they are located on the website.
What will happen on the Day of Dialogue?
We're eager to build and strengthen our community of advocates, rights holders, and government leaders. In a spirit of generosity and respect, we will have an opportunity to listen in and dialogue with may kinds of people who care about making nutritious food available for everyone today and for future generations.
