Food is a Human Right: A dialogue on hunger in Massachusetts

The right to food is a structure. It creates conditions where everyone can grow, fish, gather and buy food that is affordable, culturally appropriate, healthy, and good for people and planet today and in the future. This supports dignity, health & wellbeing.
The right to food requires 3 interlocking structures:
- Government transparency & accountability
- Publicly available data collection on food security & related metrics
- Meaningful participation & stakeholder engagement led by people who have experienced poverty & hunger
Massachusetts—with its universal school meals, the Healthy Incentives Program that helps SNAP participants buy food directly from farmers, the Hunger-Free Campus initiative, and many other programs that promote nutrition and wellbeing—can advance the right to food to ensure that nutrition and sustainable farming and fishing programs are codified in state law to help people today and in the future.
Join us to learn more & share ideas on how the right to food can strengthen efforts to end hunger on college campuses and throughout the state.
