Provost Tricia Serio Accepts Position at University of Washington

On May 17, Chancellor Kumble Subbaswamy sent the email below to the UMass Amherst community to announce that Tricia Serio, provost and senior vice chancellor for academic affairs, will be leaving UMass Amherst at the end of July to join the University of Washington as their provost and executive vice president of academic affairs.

Dear Campus Community,

I am writing today to inform you that Tricia Serio, Provost and Senior Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs, will be leaving UMass Amherst at the end of July to join the University of Washington as their Provost and Executive Vice President of Academic Affairs.

Please join me in congratulating Tricia, who has served our community with distinction for nearly six years, first as Dean of the College of Natural Sciences and then as Provost.

In her time at UMass Amherst, she has demonstrated a deep commitment to academic excellence, student success and faculty advancement. Under her leadership, we launched new initiatives to increase diversity, equity, inclusion and belonging for faculty, staff and students, including an equity action plan for faculty with a focus on workload. She also led strategic efforts to support important faculty work in areas such as sustainability, data science, society and technology, and healthy aging. I am deeply grateful for the profound contributions she has made to the success of UMass Amherst.

Moving forward, I will be following the normal consultative process for appointing an Interim Provost in close collaboration with Chancellor-Elect Javier Reyes.

Sincerely,

Chancellor Kumble Subbaswamy
