This academic credential may be earned by taking 15 credits from the Stockbridge School of Agriculture as follows:
Required Basic Course
- STOCKSCH 110 – Sustainable Horticulture – (3) Fall
Required Foundation Course- choose at least one of the following classes:
- STOCKSCH 106 - Soil Science and Management (3) Summer and Fall
- STOCKSCH 108 - Intro Botany (4) Summer and Fall
- STOCKSCH 200 – Plant Propagation (3) Fall
Lower-level Electives - you may take two of these toward the Certificate:
- STOCKSCH 104 - Plant Nutrients (2) - winter only
- STOCKSCH 109 – Insects of Ornamentals (3) Coming Summer 2025
- STOCKSCH 111 - Intro Plant Pathology (2) - Summer
- STOCKSCH 120 - Organic Gardening (4) - Summer
- STOCKSCH 166 – Practical Beekeeping - (3) Fall
- STOCKSCH 186 - Intro to Permaculture (3) Spring
Mid-Level Electives – choose remaining credits from the following (or courses listed above):

- STOCKSCH 281 – Topics in Herbalism I (2 cr) Winter

How to Enroll in Online Courses
Courses may be substituted for the required courses by permission of the Online Program Coordinator.

Students must achieve a minimum C (2.0/4.0) average across all of the courses counting toward the certificate.
When you have completed 15 credits, please contact John Gerber to receive your Certificate.
Any courses taken for the Certificate may also be applied to our fully online 60-credit Associate of Sciences degree in Horticulture!
