Whitcomb Elected to Lead the Society for Epidemiologic Research

Brian Whitcomb, Professor of Epidemiology and Chair of the Department of Biostatistics and Epidemiology, has been elected to the position of President-Elect of the Society for Epidemiologic Research (SER). He will serve a three-year term on the SER Executive Committee as President-Elect (2025-2026), President (2026-2027) and Past-President (2027-2028). He assumed the position on July 1, 2025.
During his 3-year term, Whitcomb will work with SER’s executive committee to plan the Annual Meetings and Mid-year Virtual Meetings, coordinate Society activities including the SER visits outreach/pipeline program, and contribute to policies and new initiatives,
Whitcomb’s research focuses on the epidemiology of reproductive health, evaluating risk factors for adverse pregnancy outcomes, determinants of fertility and infertility, and epidemiologic methods for biomarkers and laboratory data.
Prior to his role as chair of biostatistics and epidemiology, Whitcomb served as the school's Associate Dean for Research. He also served on the executive committee as President-elect, President, and Past-president of the Society for Pediatric and Perinatal Epidemiologic Research from 2018-2021.
Established in 1968 to foster epidemiologic research, the Society for Epidemiologic Research is the oldest and largest general epidemiology society in North America. Its mission is to keep epidemiologists at the vanguard of scientific developments. To this end, the Society sponsors the American Journal of Epidemiology and Epidemiologic Reviews, as well as the annual SER meeting.
