Biostatistics doctoral student Weidong Wang was selected as one of three winners of the Student Paper Competition at the 2025 Lifetime Data Science (LiDS) Conference, held May 28–30 in Brooklyn, New York. He was recognized at the conference banquet and presented his award-winning paper during a special session.
Wang’s paper, “Conformal Prediction for Time-to-Event Outcomes Subject to Truncation,” introduces the first conformal prediction methods for left-truncated and right-censored survival data, a challenge frequently encountered in real-world studies such as Alzheimer’s disease research. These methods provide more reliable prediction intervals for patient outcomes without requiring restrictive assumptions, helping improve prognosis and support decisions about treatment eligibility and resource allocation. His work, conducted under the mentorship of Professor of Biostatistics Jing Qian, was validated through simulations and semi-synthetic examples and is supported by a publicly available R package to facilitate use in biomedical applications.
The Lifetime Data Science Conference, organized biennially by the Lifetime Data Science Section of the American Statistical Association, is a leading national forum for advancing methodological and applied research in lifetime data science. The 2025 conference featured more than 60 scientific sessions, two keynote lectures, and a special session showcasing the student paper competition winners.
