Assistant Professor of Speech, Language, and Hearing Sciences Tim DeLuca has been awarded a Public Service Endowment Grant (PSEG) to support a project aimed at enhancing capacity for language and literacy instructions for users of augmentative and alternative communication. DeLuca will partner with the Lower Pioneer Valley Educational Collaborative in West Springfield, Mass.

The grant is one of three awarded to faculty-community partnerships by the UMass Amherst Office of Research and Engagement, and is intended to create mutually beneficial collaborative partnerships between the university and off-campus community organizations through special projects and related scholarship that address a problem or need and/or build capacity. The use of these non-renewable awards help leverage campus and community resources and create opportunities for sustained engagement after the end of the grant period.

Full-time faculty and permanent professional staff are eligible to apply for the grants, which provide up to $15,000 in funding for one-year projects.
