Degree Program Admissions
Minimum admissions requirements Online Master of Public Health in Public Health Practice (MPH-PHP):
- A bachelor’s degree
- A cumulative minimum GPA of 2.75 on a 4.0 scale. Most successful applicants will have an equivalent GPA of at least 3.0 in both undergraduate and graduate work
- At least 2 years of professional Experience in Health Care or Public Health
- one year can be waived if you hold an BA or BS in Public Health
- one year can be waived if you have a graduate certificate in Public Health
- These minimum requirements cannot be waived
- For international applicants or those U.S. citizens who completed their education internationally, the bachelor’s degree must be translated and evaluated as equivalent to a four-year degree from the U.S.
Deadlines and materials:
We consider applications twice a year:
- Spring admissions deadline is Nov. 15th
- Fall admissions deadline is June 15
Application: All prospective students must complete both the SOPHAS application and the UMass Supplemental Application. You should start with the SOPHAS application. Once you submit that and pay the fee, it will go through a verification process. Once this process is complete, your application will be sent to UMass. At that time, you will get an email from UMass letting you know to complete the supplement application and pay the second fee.

Online MHA Program
- Bachelor's degree in any field
- A cumulative minimum GPA of 3.0 on a 4.0 scale
- At least two years of clinical and/or administrative experience in a healthcare setting
- GMAT scores. Unless waived under one of these conditions
- You are a foreign medical doctor with ECFMG certification (USMLE steps 1-2)
- You already hold a doctoral degree from any institution.
- You have previously completed a Master's or Doctoral degree in any field
- You have a BA/BS degree and at least 5 years of full time experience in healthcare, public health, or health administration

Online MPH Worcester Program With UMass Chan Medical School
There are two different criteria for admissions to the program. Prospective students need to meet either one of these, not both:
Criteria 1:
- An advanced degree (MS, MA, PhD, DNP, MD, DVM, etc.) in a health-related field
Criteria 2:
- A bachelor's degree.
- A cumulative minimum GPA of 2.75 on a 4.0 scale.
- At least two years of post-baccalaureate, professional, full-time experience in either public health, health care, or health-related field
These minimum requirements cannot be waived.
For international applicants or those U.S. citizens who completed their education internationally, the bachelor's degree must be evaluated as equivalent to a four-year degree from the U.S.
We consider applications twice a year:
- Spring admissions deadline is Oct. 1
- Fall admissions deadline is June 15

Testing information:
The GRE is not required for any degree and certificate programs in SPHHS or the MPH in Worcester program.
The GMAT is required for the Online MHA program. There are waivers available. Please contact us for more information.
The TOEFL may be required for those who did not earn their degree in the U.S. However, it is waived in one of the following circumstances:
- You are a U.S. citizen or U.S. Permanent Resident
- You earned a degree from a U.S. institution or have completed at least two years of coursework toward a degree in the U.S.
- Students from certain countries or who attend certain institutions internationally may also be exempt; contact the department for more information
