MPH in Epidemiology

Epidemiology is scientific, systematic, data-driven, and a rewarding academic path if you want to develop an epidemiological orientation to public health problems with an emphasis on methodological and quantitative skills.
Our 42-credit master of public health (MPH) in epidemiology is a generalized degree that provides an opportunity to expand your knowledge base, broaden your perspectives, and enhance your research skills. The practicum experience may involve work in governmental, nongovernmental, nonprofit, industrial, and for-profit settings or appropriate university-affiliated settings.
MPH in epidemiology course requirements:
- Five public health core courses (15 credits)
- Four epidemiology and biostatistics core courses (12 credits)
- Three epidemiology electives (9 credits)
- Practicum (3 credits)
- Culminating experience (3 credits)

Interprofessional Education
Growing emphasis on collaboration in the workplace led public health accreditation bodies to require students to engage in interprofessional education (IPE), an approach that allows students to learn with, about, and from each other. You’ll complete the requirement in your MPH project course (696D).
Research Centers and Institutes
Public health sciences faculty support and contribute to several centers and institutes within the School of Public Health and Health Sciences. We foster transdisciplinary research, teaching, and outreach across basic and applied sciences and public health and clinical practice.
Practicum Experience
All MPH students complete an applied practice experience, typically during the summer between academic years. Students work at a range of "real world" sites, and have an opportunity to apply their classroom learning and explore future career opportunities.
