Faculty Opening: Assistant Professor in Kinesiology (Pathways Hire)
The Department of Kinesiology is looking to hire for a tenure-track faculty position at the assistant professor level.
The Department of Kinesiology at the University of Massachusetts Amherst is looking to hire for a tenure-track faculty position in one of its core areas of Biomechanics, Movement Neuroscience, Physical Activity and Health, and Physiology. This position is supported by the University’s Pathways initiative to increase the diversity of our academic workforce, including equity and inclusion in faculty recruitment. The Department of Kinesiology is one of six departments in the School of Public Health & Health Sciences. The department has 13 tenured/tenure-track faculty, six full-time lecturers, one research professor, one full-time undergraduate advisor, approximately 650 undergraduate majors and 50 graduate students and postdoctoral fellows. We aim to cultivate a culture of inclusion and belonging within all aspects of our program so that the University of Massachusetts Amherst Kinesiology Department can be a home for students, staff, and faculty of all identities. Faculty are established and emerging leaders in their research fields, which range from the molecular basis of movement to community-based physical activity interventions. Current research funding comes from the National Institutes of Health, Department of Defense, American Heart Association, a variety of foundations, and industry collaborators.

Specialized Facilities: The Commonwealth of Massachusetts and the University invested >$150 million to establish the Institute for Applied Life Science (IALS), which is also home to the highly innovative Center for Personalized Health Monitoring. IALS houses >30 world-class core facilities, many of which focus on human testing, including the Center for Human Health and Performance (CH2P) and Human Magnetic Resonance Center. Research conducted by faculty in CPHM targets basic and translational studies of metabolism, human movement, fatigue, and sleep, as well as physical activity and exercise interventions.
