Coles Appointed to National Council of Teachers of English Research Committee

Justin Coles, an assistant professor in the College of Education, has been appointed to the Standing Committee on Research (SCR) for the National Council of Teachers of English (NCTE).

Coles will serve on the committee for three years, beginning November 20, after NCTE’s Annual Convention.

The SCR is tasked with identifying and addressing a variety of issues related to advancing research in English language arts, including:

  • Promoting interest in research across the Council;
  • Making connections across various NCTE research groups;
  • Supporting the NCTE Annual Convention programming by serving as the primary research strand review group;
  • Encouraging English language arts scholars to conduct work in under-researched areas;
  • Catalyzing support for literacy research;
  • Developing publications for distribution to educators, administrators, and policymakers;
  • Maintaining a presence in the American Educational Research Association;
  • Securing funding for NCTE research projects

Coles also serves as the director of arts, culture and political engagements in the Center of Racial Justice and Youth Engaged Research.
