Meet Ana Moscoso from Arequipa, Peru. She recently graduated with a double major in Math and Biochemistry and Molecular Biology. Ana spent six semesters holding review sessions for Math 132 (Calculus II) as part of the Supplemental Instruction Program, where she discovered a passion for teaching and embraced a desire to create a welcoming environment in STEM—and de-stigmatize academic support, especially in math. As an international student, Ana appreciates that she was able to find a community at UMass, foster her authentic self, and accomplish her goals with the support available on campus.

She was involved in the William Lee Science Impact Program (Lee SIP), a Research Experience for Undergraduates (REU) program designed to expand and broaden participation in undergraduate research, as well as the Louis Stokes Alliance for Minority Participation (LSAMP), which provides funding to help support undergraduate research in STEM laboratories.

Ana eventually wants to earn a PhD in computational biology, and she’s getting started this fall in UMass’s Applied Mathematics M.S. program!
