On April 16, Springfield Technical Community College (STCC) hosted The Sustainathon 2025, an event designed "to educate our future leaders about current sustainability challenges and solutions to address climate change."

With approximately 500 students in attendance, this year's Sustainathon focused on reducing CO2 footprint pledges, reducing, recycling, conserving, and planting trees. In addition, the hosts sought to create awareness about "the significance of improving energy efficiency, renewable energy, reducing greenhouse gas emissions, water conservation and protection, reducing pollution, sustainable buildings, and recycling."

The events goals were addressed through three pillars: a research competition, interactive presentations, and a call for action.

UMass Amherst chancellor Javier Reyes gave an Earth Day address, emphasizing the reasons that UMass was eager to join in this year's event:
“At UMass Amherst, we are broadening the success of students and the expansion of research,” Reyes said. “We do it with a moral compass and a set of principles and values: educating, innovating, engaging, and connecting for the common good. Our sustainability mission reaches into all areas.”
