Stockbridge Student Lily Gigante Creates Ice-cream-themed Cow Sculpture for Old Sturbridge Village

Lily Gigante, a soon-to-be graduate of the College of Natural Sciences's Stockbridge School of Agriculture, has found a creative way to blend her passion for food with her talent for painting. Set to earn her degree in Plant and Soil Sciences this December, Gigante is also a skilled artist who’s already brightened campus life with murals and painted dining hall windows.
Hoping to take her art beyond the university, Gigante stumbled across a call for submissions from Old Sturbridge Village—which is home to the internationally celebrated CowParade this summer. On a whim, she decided to submit a design.
Gigante’s submission, “Chip”—a mint-chocolate-chip-ice-cream-sundae-themed cow—was selected out of 262 designs, and was one of 25 designs painted for Old Sturbridge Village’s hosting of CowParade.
The Tewksbury Town Crier reached out to Gigante to learn more about her inspiration for creating "Chip":
“Since I wanted to give a shout out to agriculture and give some love to the very hard-working dairy farmers, I thought recognizing the ice cream stand at [Old Sturbridge Village] would be a great blending of the two.”

“Chip” will be at Old Sturbridge Village now until September 28, when the cows will be auctioned to benefit Old Sturbridge Village.
