Polymer Science and Engineering
Defining the frontiers of polymers and soft materials through research, scholarship, and community.
The polymer science and engineering graduate program offers graduate students a comprehensive PhD program spanning all aspects of the evolving field of polymeric and soft materials, from synthesis and physics to engineering and properties.
Graduates are well-trained interdisciplinary problem solvers possessing a broad base of skills and knowledge, including macromolecular materials synthesis, multiscale characterization of soft material morphology, engineering and processing of polymeric materials, physics, and computational modeling. Graduate researchers develop state-of-the-art materials solutions to critical challenges facing society: sustainable resources and environment, human health, and advances in manufacturing.
Cross-disciplinary research is integral to the program and most often involves departments such as physics, chemistry, biology, food science, and chemical engineering. Students and faculty members participate extensively in collaborative research programs with industrial partners, national laboratories, and academic institutions worldwide.
The PSE program offers numerous opportunities for professional development, career placement, and community engagement
