The geology minor is a great complement to an academic major within the sciences or in mathematics, engineering, and environmental or natural resources conservation. The five-course geology minor offers high flexibility in course selection so that you can build a better understanding of our planet as it relates to your academic studies.

You’ll develop your knowledge in the origin, nature, and functions of Earth, the geologic evolution of the planet (particularly North America), and the role of geosciences in society.

You can also tailor your studies to your interests, with electives in upper-level geology courses of your choosing, covering areas such as research and analysis methodologies in geosciences, the study of volcanic rocks, sedimentology, and the materials that make up the Earth and other planetary bodies. The minor will help you explore your interest in these areas as you consider your options for potential careers and/or graduate work.
