Bachelor of Science in Veterinary Technology
Prepare for a career as a vet tech in veterinary medicine or biomedical research.
UMass Amherst’s bachelor of science degree in veterinary technology (BS-vet tech) prepares students for a career as a veterinary technologist in the fields of veterinary medicine and biomedical research.
Spend the first two years at the UMass Amherst campus learning in state-of-the-art classrooms, laboratories, and farms. For the following two years, learn and work near Boston in the dedicated Veterinary Technology facility at UMass Amherst’s Mount Ida campus in Newton, Massachusetts.
As a student, you will develop a foundation in veterinary technology and clinical nursing for animals, then move on to advanced courses in areas including anatomy and physiology, veterinary pharmacology, parasitology, pathology, small animal anesthesia and surgery, and more.
During senior year, students participate in internships at veterinary clinics and research animal facilities. The BS-vet tech program is accredited by the American Veterinary Medical Association (AVMA) and prepares students to take the Veterinary Technician National Exam (VTNE) to earn certification as a veterinary technologist.
