UMass dance embraces rigor and risk. Our BA and BFA curricula open new pathways for our students to succeed in the current dance climate. We integrate the physicality of dance with creative and theoretical scholarship, offering classical and contemporary forms of ballet, modern, and jazz, as well as theory courses based in history, education, somatics, and technology.

As a student, you’ll benefit from a resident faculty actively engaged in art-making and scholarship, both nationally and internationally, as well as guest artists participating in residencies and workshops. You’ll also be able to draw on the resources of Five College Dance, quadrupling your course choices, performance opportunities, and connections (at no additional cost). If you wish to engage in dance outside of the United States, UMass Dance has relationships with programs and institutions in Europe that would complement your academic plan.

UMass dance students are skilled performers and critical thinkers who are engaged in the community and fueled by an entrepreneurial spirit. With these qualities, our graduates are well prepared for sustainable careers as artists, educators, and scholars.
