The degree offers three concentrations:

  1. Film Theory, History, and Criticism
  2. International Cinemas: World and Global
  3. Film Production

Through interdisciplinary coursework (4 core courses, 3 courses chosen from one of the three concentrations, and 5 electives) the major in Film Studies prepares students to develop the critical thinking and analytical skills necessary to engage with film as a complex medium that reflects and shapes our society. Film majors study film as both an art form and a communication tool and will be equipped with the skills to pursue careers in the many diverse areas of the filmmaking industry, and/or to pursue graduate studies. The curriculum balances critical scholarship and hands-on creative work, ensuring that students develop both analytical skills and practical experience. The inclusion of multimedia formats such as videographic criticism and podcasting reflects the program’s commitment to staying at the forefront of current trends in film studies.
