Consultations

Consultations

The Center for Teaching and Learning (CTL) offers a customized process to enable individual instructors and departments, schools, and colleges to study their own teaching as a means to improve student learning.

Individuals

Recognizing that the route to excellent teaching is often very individualized, CTL offers instructors a confidential consultation process.  Instructors may choose from a highly-targeted, short-term consultation that addresses specific teaching goals, or a more comprehensive overall assessment. A CTL consultant and the instructor determine teaching goals, identify what is going well in the classroom and what might merit attention, and develop strategies for making needed changes. All options are supplemented by CTL’s extensive library of monographs and articles on pedagogy.

In addition, CTL consultants offer the following teaching assessment options for individual instructors:

Departmental Consultations

In addition to offering individual consultations for instructors, CTL works with departments, schools, and colleges to develop group consultation sessions tailored to the unique needs of the various teaching communities on campus. Sessions often address:

  • Issues of classroom teaching
  • TA training and supervision
  • Course and curriculum design
  • Student differences
  • Other teaching and learning topics.

Syllabus

CTL invites you to jump-start your semester with a conversation about your course and your course syllabus.  In working on your syllabus, do you have questions about course goals, learning outcomes, content, tone, assignments, or statements of responsibilities and course policies?  Are you interested in how to apply the principles of an inclusive syllabus?  Do you have a relatively final product about which you would like some feedback?

We're here for you!  We look forward to meeting and working with you!
