Researchers Seek Participants for Study on Energy Demands of Walking as We Age
Content
Researchers in the Department of Kinesiology are recruiting healthy adults aged 25–40 and 65–85 for the BEAM Study (Biomechanics and Energetics of Aging Mobility), an NIH-funded study examining the link between neuromuscular function and the energy demands of walking as we age.
Volunteers should be non-smokers in good general health. Participation involves 2–3 visits to the Center for Human Health and Performance and the Human Magnetic Resonance Center in the Life Science Laboratories, where researchers will assess balance, gait mechanics, muscle strength, aerobic capacity, muscle structure using MRI, and muscle metabolism using MRS.
Volunteers will be compensated $100–$160 in cash depending on visits completed and will receive mobility and strength assessments.
Those interested may complete the screening survey found here. For questions, contact the Musculoskeletal & Orthopedic Biomechanics Laboratory at studyage [at] umass [dot] edu (studyage[at]umass[dot]edu).
