Laura Vandenberg Named UMACC Co-chair

September 27, 2024 Giving

Laura Vandenberg

Laura Vandenberg, associate vice chancellor and vice provost for research and engagement, and Pamela Adams, director of bakery operations and executive pastry chef for UMass Dining, have joined the UMass Amherst Community Campaign (UMACC) leadership team, signing on to serve a two-year term as co-chairs.

UMACC is a benefit for faculty, staff and retirees, offering the opportunity to donate to nonprofits through payroll deduction, by check or by credit card.

Vandenberg has several decades of volunteer experience, currently serving on the board of directors for the Breast Cancer Prevention Partners. Adams also has volunteered for non-profit organizations throughout Western Massachusetts and recently won a Commonwealth Heroine award from the Massachusetts Commission on the Status of Women for helping find employment for Haitian immigrants and refugees.

“I feel passionately about supporting nonprofit groups that make a difference here in Western Massachusetts, but also groups that work nationally,” Vandenberg says. “That’s what’s great about UMACC — it allows each one of us to support nonprofits that align with our own interests and values.”

“While nonprofits need your donations, they also need your help,” Adams adds. “I encourage you to connect with a nonprofit with a cause that is important to you. Show your UMass spirit. Donate funds through the campaign, but also donate your time if you can.”

The 2023-24 UMACC campaign raised almost $400,000 with 62% slated for nonprofits in the four Western Massachusetts counties. This year’s campaign kicked off Thursday, September 26, with a launch party and nonprofit fair. More than 30 nonprofits were represented at the fair, which featured food and dogs from local shelters and police departments.
