The Department of Kinesiology and the Hampshire Regional YMCA in Northampton have partnered to offer “LIVESTRONG at the YMCA,” a physical activity and wellness program designed to support adults affected by cancer.

The nationally recognized program engages UMass kinesiology students to assist with delivering specialized exercise programs for participants during sessions that will be held at noon on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays starting in January.

The 12-week, research-based exercise program is designed to help cancer survivors regain strength, overcome fatigue, increase flexibility and, most importantly, connect with other survivors and create a supportive network.

LIVESTRONG at the YMCA participants can join at no cost and receive a complimentary membership to the Y for themselves and their immediate family members for the duration of the program.

For more information, contact Judi LaBranche, senior lecturer of kinesiology, at jblabran [at] umass [dot] edu (jblabran[at]umass[dot]edu), or Jared Ramer, YMCA health and wellness coordinator, at Jared [dot] Ramer [at] hrymca [dot] org (Jared[dot]Ramer[at]hrymca[dot]org).
