Nutrition doctoral student Judy Kim has been selected to receive the 2026 American Society for Nutrition’s (ASN) George Bray Obesity Research Student Award. This award is given to two students for outstanding research related to pediatric nutrition.
Kim, who works under the mentorship of Associate Professor of Nutrition Soonkyu Chung, was selected in recognition of her abstract titled “Fluctuation of Energy and Hormones Attenuates PPARgamma and Remodels Lipid Droplet-Coating Proteins in a Yo-Yo Model of Human Adipocytes.” She was selected out of 147 presenting authors who applied for the award.
Kim will be presented with her award, which includes a $500 prize, during the American Society for Nutrition's annual flagship meeting, NUTRITION 2026, being held July 25-28, 2026, in National Harbor, Maryland, just outside Washington, D.C. As a George Bray student award honoree, she has also been invited to present her work as part of the George Bray Outstanding Scientific Achievements Award in Obesity Research Lecture, presented this year by honoree Susan Fried of Rutgers University.
The Bray Outstanding Scientific Achievements Award in Obesity Research and the George Bray Obesity Research Student Award were endowed in 2020 by Dr. George A. Bray, a long-standing ASN member and pioneer in the field of obesity research, and his wife, Marilyn M. Bray.
