Nutrition major Gabrielle Benkenstein has been named a Fall 2025 Scholar-Athlete by UMass Athletics. A midfielder on the field hockey team, Benkenstein is a senior hailing from Hilton, South Africa.

Also this month, Benkenstein earned Third Team All-America recognition from the National Field Hockey Coaches Association (NFHCA), marking the first All-America honor of the midfielder's career as she was among 48 Division I student-athletes recognized.

An All-MAC First Team selection, Benkenstein appeared in 17 games with 14 starts in 2025 and logged 16 points on three goals and 10 assists to rank third on the squad in scoring. She ended the year fourth in the MAC in assists per-game (0.59), good for 23rd nationally. Over four seasons with the Minutewomen, she registered 30 points on nine goals and 12 assists.
