IGH Global Health Seminar: Featuring Paul Mireji and Dawit Wolday

The UMass Amherst Institute for Global Health (IGH) hosts its first Global Health seminar in the 2026-2027 IGH Global Health Seminar series on Wednesday, September 30, 2026, at 8:30 AM in the SPHHS Hub Seminar Rooms.
The seminar will feature two dynamic speakers:
- Dr. Paul Mireji, Senior Scientist at the Kenya Agricultural and Livestock Research Organization (KALRO), will discuss "Climate Change, Malaria Transmission and Mitigation in Kenya." Dr. Mireji has extensive research experience in vector biology and ecology, particularly in malaria and trypanosomiasis in East Africa. He has led and collaborated on substantial NIH-supported research in the region.
- Dr. Dawit Wolday, Associate Professor at McMaster University and a Senior Investigator affiliated with the Ethiopian Public Health Institute, will deliver a talk titled "Advancing Pathogren Genomics for Public Health in the Context of Sub-Saharan Africa." Dr. Wolday has extensive experience in infectious diseases, including malaria, pathogen surveillance, diagnostics, and global health research.
The seminar is co-sponsored by the Department of Environmental Health Sciences.
