Take Prerequisites in Person

Complete your prerequisite courses in person.

In the onsite post-baccalaureate, preclinical program, students complete prerequisite courses alongside undergraduates in the communication disorders undergraduate program. Coursework is therefore very much like that for an undergraduate: students should expect lecture and discussion sections taken in a carefully selected order.

Pre-Speech-Language Pathology Coursework

  • SLHS 211: Anatomy & Physiology of the Speech and Hearing Systems
  • SLHS 301: Speech and Language Development
  • SLHS 313: Introduction to Audiology
  • SLHS 415: Speech and Language Disorders

 Spring semesters:

  • SLHS 212: Neuroscience for Speech, Language, and Hearing
  • SLHS 213: Phonetic Processing
  • SLHS 312: Introduction to Speech Science
  • SLHS 316: Introduction to Aural Rehabilitation

Pre-Audiology Coursework

Fall semesters:

  • SLHS 211: Anatomy & Physiology of the Speech and Hearing Systems
  • SLHS 301: Speech and Language Development
  • SLHS 313: Introduction to Audiology
  • SLHS 415: Speech and Language Disorders

 Spring semesters:

  • SLHS 212: Neuroscience for Speech, Language, and Hearing

Some courses in the program assume background knowledge offered in other courses. Students are not required to complete courses in sequence: listed prerequisites apply to UMass undergraduates only. However, students are encouraged to read course descriptions carefully, as you may find coursework more challenging if you have not completed those prerequisites.
