About
As the Associate Dean for Undergraduate Academic Affairs at the School of Public Health and Health Sciences at the University of Massachusetts Amherst, I am deeply committed to supporting students through both academic guidance and meaningful mentorship that fosters a strong sense of belonging and community. Since joining the university in 2004, I have been dedicated to advancing undergraduate education, notably serving as Program Director of the Public Health Sciences program for over a decade. In 2021, I was honored to receive the ASPPH Riegelman Award for Excellence in Public Health Education.
My research and teaching center on community-based prevention and intervention strategies, with a particular focus on substance abuse, suicide prevention, mental health promotion, and LGBT health. As Co-Director of the Center for Program Evaluation, I collaborate closely with communities to design tailored mixed-method evaluations that address their unique needs and challenges.
What I find most rewarding is teaching and mentoring students—helping you to navigate your academic journey, bridge classroom knowledge with real-world public health and health science issues, and empowering your development as a thoughtful leader and committed change-maker in the field.
