About

Andrea Ayvazian is a passionate educator and community-engaged scholar with a global perspective on community health and adult learning. She completed her undergraduate studies in Brazil (biology and nursing), and went on to get a doctorate of education with a dissertation on transformative education with marginalized adults in community-based settings. Ayvazian has consulted with World Education and the Massachusetts Department of Public Health on designing learner-centered curriculum and teaching HIV prevention for at-risk and marginalized populations. She teaches undergraduate and graduate courses in Community Health Education and is currently redesigning the popular general education course My Body, My Health using innovative, learner-centered approaches. Ayvazian was a faculty fellow in the 2015-2016 Student-Centered Teaching and Learning Fellowship with the Institute for Teaching Excellence and Faculty Development at UMass Amherst.
