At UMass Amherst and across the nation, universities power life-changing research and provide access and opportunity for education that strengthens America and drives our economy forward. Public investments in research have led to cleaner water, new energy systems, and equal access to education and health care.

For more than 160 years UMass Amherst has been a key part of the knowledge economy in Massachusetts, contributing $16.3 billion in economic activity annually—a 1.9x return on research and development investment. When these investments are threatened, the state and nation’s futures as scientific powerhouses are at risk.

In response to ongoing federal threats to research investments, the university has launched “Higher Ed for the Common Good,” a public awareness campaign heralding the myriad discoveries and benefits to the public generated at UMass Amherst.

On a newly refreshed Research website and through ongoing social media campaign posts, visitors can learn about the faculty, researchers and students who are:

  • Improving Health & Well-Being
  • Building a Better Future for Farms & Food
  • Protecting Our Communities & Environment
  • Creating Medical & Technological Breakthroughs
  • Shaping Fair & Smart Policies for Society
  • And much more

The university will also be developing social media content that highlights the excellence and expertise of UMass Amherst’s international students and faculty and showcasing how access to a college education opens the door to a wide range of opportunities.

In addition to frequenting the new site and following UMass Amherst on social media, those interested in keeping up with the latest in research and innovation from UMass Amherst can also sign up for the quarterly “Revolutionary Research” e-newsletter.

More information about university research and response to federal actions can also be found on the websites of the Office of Research & Engagement, the Office of News and Media Relations, and the UMass Amherst Federal Actions webpage.
