UMass Amherst to Host Inaugural Innovation in Nursing and Engineering Symposium on Sept. 13

AMHERST, Mass. – UMass Amherst Chancellor Kumble Subbaswamy, researchers and faculty from the Elaine Marieb Center for Nursing and Engineering Innovation and prominent nurses and engineers from across the country will gather for the inaugural symposium to learn about the center’s accomplishments and seed grant projects, nurse-engineer innovations, and to network and exchange ideas.

Providing a policy perspective on innovation and collaboration will be Joanne M. Comerford, Massachusetts state senator for Hampshire, Franklin and Worcester counties. Joanne Miller, DNP, RN, chief nurse executive of Baystate Health and chief nursing officer, Baystate Medical Center, will provide the afternoon keynote.

An afternoon panel will feature a discussion on industry-academic partnerships featuring key figures from the Massachusetts health innovation industry and notable research scientists. Also participating in an afternoon session will be nurses and engineers who are actively engaged in collaborative medical product innovations, such as UMass Amherst’s IV Smart Pump Initiative.
