Society of American Foresters Selects Paul Catanzaro for Technology Transfer Award

Paul Catanzaro, extension professor in the College of Natural Sciences Department of Environmental Conservation, recently received the 2024 Technology Transfer Award from the Society of American Foresters (SAF), a leading scientific and professional society for the field of forestry.
The award recognizes “outstanding achievement in technology transfer implementation, and extension as evidenced in the recipient’s career or involvement in SAF Working Group and science program activities. Technology transfer is critical to assuring that sound technical information becomes available to those concerned with the management and conservation of forest resources.”
The SAF highlights Catanzaro’s work integrating research and outreach to family forest owners, the approach of which is to learn about family forest owners and provide help to landowners with their decisions about the future of their land through conservation-based estate planning. He is also interested in the application of ecological forestry across multi-owner landscapes to restore and sustain forests.
“I am so pleased to see this recognition of Professor Catanzaro’s decades of successful and innovative programs, translating science to action and supporting private landowners in conserving and managing forests across Massachusetts,” says Paige Warren, professor and department head of the Department of Environmental Conservation.
