Phone with alarm going off

Waking up without an alarm may sound...well, alarming. But experts argue our bodies may not need one at all. There are many different ways to train your body and brain to wake up when you need them to. One such method includes using sunlight to wake yourself up. Scientists interviewed in a recent Business Insider article support the idea of alarm-free waking, when circumstances allow.

One expert featured in the article is Rebecca Spencer, an associate professor in the College of Natural Science's Department of Psychological and Brain Sciences and a neuroscientist who studies sleep and its effects on the brain. Spencer believes waking up without an alarm clock may work for some, though it's not ideal for everyone. Spencer encourages healthy sleep patterns, maintaining a consistent bedtime, limiting light at night, and getting natural light in the morning as ways to get a healthy sleep.

Read more about Spencer's tips on healthy and natural sleep habits at Business Insider.
