About

Research Interests:

Piper Gaubatz is an urban geographer specializing in the study of urban change, development, and environmental issues in East Asia and the U.S. She is interested in the processes which shape urban space, and particularly in the historical and contemporary linkages between policy, practice, and physical and social urban forms in China, Japan, and the U.S. Her current research includes an analysis of transformations of public spaces in Chinese cities in the context of environmental, economic, and social change, and a broader effort to develop theoretical frameworks for analyzing urban change.
