Building Bridges

The University Museum of Contemporary Art (UMCA), located on the lower level of the Randolph W. Bromery Center for the Arts, will present an exhibition featuring a selection of works from the multi-year campuswide project, “Our Immigrant Voices,” from Oct. 31 – Nov. 17 with a reception open to the public on Thursday, Nov. 2 from 5-7 p.m.

“Our Immigrant Voices” is a Building Bridges course offered through a collaboration among the Partnership for Worker Education, Office of Human Resources, Civic Engagement and Service-Learning and the Office of Equity and Inclusion that seeks to amplify the voices and visibility of immigrant workers on campus.

Since 2018, “Our Immigrant Voices,” has created a context for dialogue, inviting workers from different backgrounds and from across campus, to come together each week and discuss their experiences at UMass Amherst and beyond.   Drawing on visual elicitation and participatory action research methods, course participants have contributed to and created large-scale projects that have been shared numerous times on campus and at conferences.

Exhibition guests can access parking at the Robsham Visitors Center or in the Lincoln Campus Center Parking Garage. For patrons with disabilities, the museum is wheelchair accessible from the north entrance, next to the Campus Pond, where handicapped parking is available. An access-parking permit must be visible.

For more information about the exhibition, contact Jacob Carter at jacarter [at] umass [dot] edu or call 413-545-1826.
