About the Greenbaums
The gallery, which opened in October 2013, was dedicated as the Louis and Hilda Greenbaum Gallery in June 2014. Inspired by the progress that honors education on campus has made in the past fifty years, Louis Greenbaum, the founding director of the university’s former Honors Program, and his wife, Hilda, donated $250,000 to support the Commonwealth Honors College Residential Community (CHCRC).
Greenbaum, a UMass Amherst professor of history for more than thirty years and a recipient of the Distinguished Teacher Award, championed undergraduate education for more than 60 years.
