International Education MEd – Admissions

How to apply

The application process varies depending on whether you apply to the in-person or online program

In-person option: Prospective students apply for a Fall term start. The deadline for applications is January 2nd. If accepted, please be aware that you can defer your admission for a term or a year.

Online option: Prospective students can apply to start the program in the Fall or Spring terms and the process is faster. We use rolling admissions, so applications are accepted until full. If room, the last dates to submit applications for consideration are:

  • Fall semester: July 1
  • Spring semester: November 30

For online student applicants: When you submit your application, UMass Graduate School Admissions will put a date on your application, which often is much farther away than desired (e.g. "Fall 2026"). If this is not accurate, please write your preferred term of entry at the end of your personal statement (e.g. "Spring 2026") and we will review for the term you specify. The program can only see completed applications.

We encourage all online applicants to reach out to internationaled [at] umass [dot] edu (internationaled[at]umass[dot]edu) to schedule a coaching session about the application process.

Prerequisites

  • Generally we require a minimum undergraduate GPA of 3.0 and a TOEFL score of 80

  • The GRE is not required
